Our Story
How we met

A mutual friend's birthday

We met at a mutual friend's birthday. I remember seeing her across the room and thinking, like something out of a movie, "Who is this beautiful woman?" As the day went on, my brother Tomiwa, who had met her before, introduced us in his usual playful way — jokingly asking if she knew me and saying that if she did not, she did not really know anyone in Toronto, unknowingly introducing me to my future wife. Later in the evening, we finally spoke in a group setting and got to know each other a bit more. We also realized we had been going to the same church the entire time, but had never actually crossed paths.

The first conversation

Three months later

After that day, we would see each other in church and exchange quick hellos and goodbyes. It was not until that same mutual friend's wedding three months later that we had our first proper one-on-one conversation, which led to the start of everything. God truly led us to one another, and we are forever grateful for our connection.

A Little About Us
Who made the first move? How?

We were talking after church and I mentioned I was going to Costco. She said she had never been, so I invited her to come along. After grabbing everything, we were in the checkout line when I realized I forgot a box — which at Costco is basically a rookie mistake. I told her to hold our spot while I ran to get one. Halfway there, it hit me that we did not even have each other's number… and I had just left her alone in a Costco line like a trusting child. So I rushed back and, instead of saying something smooth, I went with: "Wow… we do not even have each other's number in case you needed to call me." She saw right through it, took my phone, and put her number in anyway. I texted her later that week to ask if it was a good time to call. She said yes, I called… and we have talked every day since.

What was your most memorable date?

The day I asked Funmi to be my girlfriend. I had planned with the restaurant to bring out dessert with the question written on it. What I did not expect was for them to go full VIP mode — sparklers, a big sign, the whole production. She was confused, looking around like "who is this for?"… then the waiter literally pointed to her plate. She looked down, read the question, and said yes.

What's your favorite activity together?

Eating 😊 We love a good restaurant. Our current favourite is Ultra Restaurant in downtown Toronto. We definitely recommend it if you have time during your trip.

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

Food at Tito's brother and his wife's house — Tomiwa and Chioma.

We're on the same page about…

Our faith in God, values, family, and love for each other — we are on the same page about almost everything. That is a big part of why we are getting married.
